Measuring Risk with Medications in your Organization: Using the Right Data to Identify Risk

Program Overview:
Medications are among the most common interventions used to treat medical conditions and adverse drug events can result in injury resulting in a substantial source of preventable harm to patients. While we all have a goal to prevent patient harm and to have reliable processes, how do we know we are being successful?

Evaluating the level of safety is fundamental to preventing harm to patients. Yet, measuring medication safety has long been a challenge. Historically, measurement efforts have focused on counting the number of medication errors reported by practitioners, which at best, uncover just a small fraction of the errors. Organizations can have a false sense of security about the safety of their medication systems when using the method, believing that if there are not many error reports that there are no problems with their medication use system.

This webinar will introduce a variety of methods available to measure medication safety within your organization beyond the use of error reports. At the end of this webinar, you will be able to determine if there are unreliable processes associated with medication use in your own organization, the extent of these problem(s), and if improvement efforts have been successful.
